Renaissance Woman at work

This is my personal site, but sometimes people land here who need something special for their work.  Here’s the story right now:

I’m a full-time freelance writer and editor from the UK, now living in southern Germany.  I speak English, German and some French, but write and edit in English.

My taste for the freelance life began in the 80s when I was still at school (I was my school French teacher’s flute teacher and ended up with a dozen students at the weekends by the time I was 16).  I trained as a professional musician, and continue to perform occasionally now, providing a great break from the computer.  I’ve also done a lot of historical tailoring for clients (yes, I know that last one is especially left field), and continue to research historical clothing in my spare time.

My current writing focusses on marketing material for businesses, such as product descriptions, blog posts, press releases and social media campaigns.  My past life in a research-driven environment also makes me a great choice for white papers and case studies, as well as articles on a wide variety of topics, including education and eLearning.  I edit all kinds of things, but have very fond memories of Ravens, Kinfolk and Foul Play last year, and put my music expertise to good use editing music reviews.  I’m also a German to English translator, focussing mainly on marketing and tourism.

My employed work included several teaching jobs and a decade tutoring master’s and undergraduate students in music, material culture and arts foundation through distance-learning programmes, which explains that enigmatic mention above of my past life in a research-driven environment.

What does all of this make me now?  A Renaissance Woman with expertise in several areas.
